Three Part Lessons: The 3 Part Lesson is used in math to foster math talk. The three parts of the three part lesson are, Before, During and After, which are also referred to as Activating Prior Knowledge, Hands On, and Congress. Teachers engage students with a 5 -10 minute mini-lesson which has a clear learning goal and helps to activate prior knowledge. Then the students actively participate in a task using a variety of strategies to solve the problem. Finally, the teacher has the students reflect on their work to discuss the various strategies they used to solve the task.

EQAO After School Session, April 11/12
The lesson plans below were created at the EQAO session held at Park Lawn. Please feel free to change the lessons to better meet the needs of your class. The teachers looked at questions from Marian Small's book Good Questions, Great Ways to Differentiate Math. The teachers then look at an EQAO question and wrote a three part lesson to match the question.

EQAO After School Session April 18/12
The Assessment FOR Learning tools were created at the EQAO session held at Park Lawn by the teachers who participated in the workshop. The tool can be used at the beginning and throughout the unit to help you assess students and to guide your practice. The questions were taken from a several Primary EQAO tests. The tool is intended to help you write observations, or anecdotal notes quickly. The mathematical thinking is listed from the least effective to most effective. The empty space to the left is for your seating plan. The template also includes the list of Strategies, Tools and Misconceptions that students can have about the mathematics. There are also guiding questions to help you guide students to a solution. I have included an empty template. Please share any Assessment For Learning (A4L) Tools you create!
